Automotive Industry - Transforming Vocational Training to Agile and Self-Organized Learning

Objective
Future-proofing vocational training: The goal was to develop an innovative learning process that not only imparts technical knowledge but also strengthens future-oriented competencies. We focused on project-based and team-oriented learning to prepare apprentices for the demands of an increasingly dynamic work environment.

Role

As an external consultant, I collaborated closely with the transformation team, advised leadership on strategic alignment, and worked hands-on with instructors to co-create meaningful change.

Approach

  • Step-by-step development and implementation: I led the design of an agile, self-organized learning process—beginning with a pilot group of instructors and gradually scaling it across the department.

  • Empowering instructors: Through coaching and workshops, I supported instructors in adopting agile team structures, enabling them to actively shape and lead the shift toward a new learning culture.

Outcomes

  • Sustainable integration into training: The custom-designed learning process, grounded in agile and self-organized principles, is now embedded in day-to-day classroom instruction.

  • Stronger self-organization among apprentices: Apprentices now learn to tackle complex challenges independently and collaboratively, developing not just technical expertise but also critical 21st-century skills.

  • Instructors as development team: An agile learning culture has also taken root among instructors, fostering peer exchange and the continuous evolution of teaching practices.
